TRES PINOS CREEK VINEYARD
The wild and rustic kin of the famed Nebbiolo of Piedmont. Planted in 1994 and organically farmed by the Siletto family in San Benito, Gravelly loam soils of an alluvial fan situated next to the Tres Pinos Creek where it takes its name. While Freisa was oft thought as an underdog to the more popular Nebbiolo and fruiter Dolcetto and Barbera of the region, plantings of Freisa are on the rise again. Akin to Nebbiolo it keeps its acid and has a strong tannin profile making it a wine built for ageability. All foot stomped and fermented whole cluster in concrete tanks but moved to neutral barrique for a year to soften the tannin profile then bottle-aged for another 6 months prior to the release.
Tobacco and tea spiced with a tart strawberry core. If Graillot made Freisa in Crozes Hermitage we think this is what it would taste like.
